40th Anniversary Year Marked by Major Sustainability Recognition

The P&A Group is proud to announce that it has won the prestigious “Excellence in Sustainability” Award at this year’s West Cheshire and North Wales Chamber of Commerce Annual Recognition Awards, held on Friday 14th November. The award comes during the company’s 40th anniversary year and recognises P&A’s leadership in sustainable business practices across North Wales and beyond – bringing meaningful environmental and commercial benefits to the customers who rely on its products and services.

The “Excellence in Sustainability” Award celebrates organisations leading the transition to a low-carbon, low-waste future. P&A Pallet’s (part of the P&A Group) recognition reflects its comprehensive approach to environmental responsibility, driven by innovative circular economy initiatives, renewable energy investments, and a zero timber waste ethos.

“We’re absolutely thrilled to receive this award,” said Rhys Hughes, P&A Group Director. “Sustainability isn’t just a part of what we do – it’s at the heart of everything we do, from sourcing materials responsibly to powering our sites with renewable energy. This acknowledgement is a tribute to the dedication and passion of our entire Pallet team, whose hard work is driving real, positive impact for our customers, community and the environment. We’re proud to be making a difference today while shaping a more sustainable tomorrow.”

“This is fantastic news for P&A and everyone involved,” said Andrew Baker, P&A Group Managing Director. “We want to make a lasting impact, and we know that creating a sustainable future takes collective effort. Our team’s commitment to doing their part – every pallet returned, repaired, every tree planted, and every initiative undertaken – is what drives our progress.”

Leading the Way in Sustainable Business

Working closely with more than 20 major manufacturers across various industries, P&A Pallets leads a pioneering pallet recovery and reuse programme that significantly cuts waste and delivers up to 85% carbon savings compared with producing new pallets. Every day, staff repair or recycle up to 600 pallets, ensuring that no timber waste goes to landfill; any wood that can’t be reused is transformed into useful by-products such as biofuel, animal bedding, or mulch – delivering a zero timber waste ethos.

Across its sites, employees also help operate 200kW of solar panels and seven biomass boilers, generating renewable heat using recycled wood waste. The team’s efforts extend beyond the business itself, supplying local farmers with sustainable woodchip for fuel and bedding.

Looking ahead, colleagues are contributing to the creation of 25 acres of new woodland in Denbighshire in 2026, a long-term project that will enhance biodiversity and capture carbon for years to come.

Together, these initiatives – driven by the passion and hard work of the entire P&A Group team – are reducing emissions, strengthening the local economy, building pride across the community and enabling customers to make environmentally responsible choices without compromising on quality or reliability.

“Winning this award affirms the value of the work we do every day and the difference it makes not only for our business, but for every customer who chooses to work with us.” Added Rhys Hughes.
