Rhys Hughes Strategic Development & Supply Chain Director at P&A Group, attended the official launch of Circularity in Practice at the Renew Hub in Trafford Park, where His Majesty King Charles III marked the introduction of the nationwide initiative.

The programme brings together businesses from across the UK to drive forward practical approaches to reducing waste and extending the lifecycle of materials through reuse, refurbishment and remanufacturing.

Hosted at the Renew Hub, the UK’s largest reuse and repair facility, the event showcased how collaborative action can support the transition to a more resource-efficient economy. Operated by SUEZ, the facility plays a key role in diverting waste from landfill by repairing and repurposing items for continued use.

During the visit, The King toured the site’s refurbishment areas and specialist repair workshops, gaining insight into the processes that enable materials and products to be restored and reused. He also met with SMEs participating in an educational session focused on implementing circular practices within their organisations.

Speaking following the event, Rhys Hughes said:

“It was a privilege to attend the launch of Circularity in Practice and to see first-hand the impact that collaboration can have in driving more sustainable ways of working. At P&A Group, sustainability is not an add-on – it is embedded in how we operate.

We have a genuine commitment to the environment and ethical sourcing, with all of our timber certified to recognised standards including FSC® and PEFC. We are actively working with partners on replanting initiatives across Europe, while also supporting woodland management here in the UK.

At P&A Pallets & Packing Cases, our zero timber waste policy ensures that nothing goes to landfill – any unrepairable pallets are repurposed to fuel our biomass boilers, helping to power our own operations. Alongside this, we are continuing to reduce plastic use and work towards fully recyclable and reusable packaging.

Initiatives like this are vital in bringing businesses together to share knowledge and accelerate progress towards a truly circular economy.”

Supported by British Chambers of Commerce and a network of leading organisations, Circularity in Practice aims to embed sustainable principles into everyday business operations, demonstrating how cross-sector collaboration can deliver measurable environmental impact.

The event highlighted the growing momentum behind circular economy initiatives and the role businesses can play in driving long-term change.
